Guatemala Intro

A map of Guatemala, the second country I will visit in Latin America
I have just left Chile, and I am now on my way to Guatemala, the second of three countries I will visit in Latin America. During my preparation research, I learned that Guatemala is a small country in Central America that is south of Mexico, north of Honduras, and west of Belize. In, Guatemala, there are many geographic landmarks like the Peten, a basin that has many dense rainforests, and a string of twenty-seven volcanoes that cover the southern part of the country. I also learned in my research that most people in Guatemala are Ladinos, a mix of Mayan and Spanish, and Mayan. Also, much of Guatemala’s economy is based on agriculture and not industry causing Guatemala to be an undeveloped nation, and much of the people, especially the Mayans, live off of the many different types of farming. I am very excited to be visiting Guatemala, and I hope I am able to see all aspects of Guatemalan life in both urban and rural areas.
